In Simrishamn, herring and herring fishing have long been significant. That's why we have dedicated a special day to herring. Herring Day is a beloved tradition and a celebration for all ages.
This year, Herring Day will also feature a seaweed festival, highlighting seaweed as food and local seaweed cultivation on Österlen.
During Herring Day, the Harvest Time on Österlen will also be inaugurated, where you can experience the region's harvests, food, craftsmanship, and culture.

Autumn on Österlen is a magical time! During the Harvest Time theme, around 60 local businesses invite you to experience the region’s harvest, food, culture, and craftsmanship. For a whole month, you can explore well-stocked farm shops, join guided tours focused on food, nature, and drink, participate in tastings and hands-on activities, and enjoy music, lectures, and art exhibitions. Cafés, restaurants, and accommodations stay open longer to welcome you. Warmly welcome!
The Apple Market
Experience the Apple Market in Kivik from September 28 to October 13! Start with the impressive opening and marvel at the world’s largest apple mosaic, created by Emma Karp Lundström and her team. Enjoy a wide range of apple-related activities, exhibitions, and sales. The family weekend on October 5-6 offers extra activities for families with children. Don’t miss this vibrant and flavorful autumn tradition!
Österlen lyser
When it's darkest, Österlen shines the brightest! For the 19th year in a row, lights will be lit and numerous activities will take place across Österlen - about 200 events in 50 villages during All Saints' weekend. This year's light village, Sankt Olof, will kick off the festivities on Friday at 6 PM with a sea of torches illuminating the church and village paths, all under the theme "Together"!
Traditional goose dinner
A Skåne goose dinner, served around Mårtensafton on November 10, is a tribute to Swedish culinary traditions. It begins with black soup, followed by roast goose with accompaniments like potatoes and red cabbage, and concludes with Skåne apple cake. It is both a culinary and cultural experience, bringing people together for a cozy meal.
