The timeless tragedy of Romeo and Juliet set in the slums of 1950s New York. The Jets, a gang on the West Side, are preparing to fight the rival Puerto Rican gang the Sharks. Jets leader Riff seeks help from Tony, who co-founded the gang. But Tony has quit the gang to take a real job, and he joins in to calm his emotions. At the dance where the gangs meet to settle the score, Tony falls in love with Maria, the sister of Sharks leader Bernardo. Tony tries to limit the weapons to his fists, but everything goes out of control. New digitally restored version with singalong subtitles.
