Who was Gösta Werner?

The artist Gösta Werner (1909–1989) is best known for his powerful narrative marine motifs that he experienced as a sailor and sea captain during the 1930s–1940s.

Although he was a versatile and well-known artist during his time, many people today are unfamiliar with him and his artistry. We at the Gösta Werner Museum want to change that!

For a few weeks, we are therefore highlighting parts of Gösta Werner's work in various materials and techniques that have rarely been shown. The large hall is decorated with some of the large textile artworks he made in collaboration with textile artists at Handarbetets Vänner. We are also showing the largest work – a globe sewn in spinnaker fabric with a diameter of almost four meters, for the Foreign Affairs Hall at Landvetter Airport outside Gothenburg, which was inaugurated in 1977.
