Exhibition with Matilda Bjerstedt

In the Stora atelier on the first floor of the art museum, we show Matilda Bjerstedt's exhibition "Run, before it's too late", a socially critical photo project with a focus on LGBTQ+ and racism.

"Run, before it's too late" is a photo series that explores the individual's experience of alienation and inner monologue in relation to society. We follow a young queer couple and take part in one partner's thoughts, feelings and opinions about events in their lives. Through photographs and texts, we get to follow the struggle between the inner voice echoing in the head and the external pressures of society. The photo series depicts the experience of being involuntarily forced into an inferior role and not being able to get out of the situation. Feelings of powerlessness, denial and fear arise. The fear of not being accepted and of not being sufficient for yourself and the world around you.

Matilda Bjerstedt is 19 years old and lives in Beddingestrand. "Run, before it's too late" is part of her degree project at Ystad Gymnasium, majoring in Aesthetics and Media.
