Medieval construction & building conservation
This year marks 50 years since the European Year of Building Conservation was proclaimed by the Council of Europe! It was a reaction to the extensive demolition waves of the 1960s and 70s.
During the anniversary year, the role of the cultural environment today and in the future will be highlighted – for the climate, for the environment and for our built cultural heritage to remain and enrich society.
We of course want to be part of this and draw attention to this at Glimmingehus, and that is why we are being visited by carpenters and blacksmiths on these theme days about medieval construction and building conservation!
Carpenter Jan Sjöblom from J Sjöblom Bygghantverk will be showing carpentry work, including wide-beaming.
We also welcome blacksmith Robert Karlsson from Robert Karlsson Metall, who is in the aesjan and forges building iron.
Maybe both young and old will get to try a thing or two! Feel free to ask the craftsmen questions.
There will also be other activities related to medieval construction
