The impact of storms on the Skåne coast

Storm Babet, which hit the south and east coast of Skåne in October 2023, left extensive damage to infrastructure and buildings. In many places, the beaches were eroded and sand dunes were washed away. But what has happened since the storm? Has the sand returned and how well prepared are coastal communities for future storms? Coastal engineer Caroline Hallin talks about how storms affect the coast, how the risks will increase in the future, how to protect yourself and what would happen if the infamous Backa flood that occurred in 1872 were to repeat itself. Caroline Hallin is a coastal engineer, associate professor and researcher in technical water resources science at LTH, Lund University.

In collaboration with the Association for the Conservation of Ancient Monuments and Heritage in Southeast Skåne. After the lecture, coffee and homemade apple cake will be served.
