Simon Sorgenfrei at the Literature scene

Simon Sorgenfrei visits Ystad's city library to talk about his book "They will be different Swedes": the story of Sweden's first Muslims.
At the turn of the last century, a man named Ebrahim Umerkajeff moved to Stockholm and for a long time he lived there as the country's only Muslim. He came to Sweden as a young poor adventurer but over time became a successful businessman with a floor in Östermalm and a shop on Birger Jarlsgatan. In 1930 he was joined by the Arhan family from Turkey and when additional Muslim families arrived as refugees during World War II, Ebrahim helped them settle. It is these people, Sweden's first Muslims, who are at the center of this book.
Simon Sorgenfrei is professor of religious studies and director of IMS - Institute for Research on Multi-Religiosity and Secularity at Södertörn University.
