Rynge Theatre: Creditor

The play The Creditor by August Strindberg is a drama about love, betrayal and revenge!

The main characters are Tekla and her husband Adolf, who is an artist in failing health. Adolf has been visited by his newfound friend Gustav, who is sitting and consulting with him about what to do with his wife Tekla, who is constantly playing with him. He fears that she is unfaithful the way she runs around at night. What he does not know is that Gustav was once married to Tekla and has now, like a creditor, come to take her back...

The Creditor is one of Strindberg's most psychological and naturalistic works, depicting the dark sides and conflicts of humanity. The play was written in 1888–1889 and premiered on March 9, 1889 at the Dagmar Theatre in Copenhagen. The Swedish premiere was on March 1, 1890 at the Svenska Teatern in Stockholm and attracted great attention for its daring and provocative plot.
