Petra Gipp - The body and the light
The physical body is like a section in time, a condensed movement forms a spatial context. Glitches, passages and cuts open up to the outer rooms, to the world outside one's own body. Light and shadows are concentrated and reproduce the dynamics, rhythm and silence of the inner rooms.
Petra Gipp is one of today's most noted Swedish architects. She works in the borderland between architecture and sculpture. Gipp has been awarded several times with prizes and awards. Her sculptural works have been shown at exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, including at Liljevalch Art Hall, Artipelag and Färgfabriken Art Hall, as well as several times at the Architecture Biennale in Venice. At the Kivik Art Centre, her work Refugium is on permanent display. Petra Gipp is a member of the Royal Academy of Liberal Arts.
"My work is characterized by an investigative approach in the borderland between architecture and sculpture. The working material is the cast; mostly plaster, but also wax and concrete. With this working method I approach the architectural, here the spatial is sculpted through a focus on volume, elements and details, where everything merges into one and the same thought. Working seamlessly with a material gives me an opportunity to shape an architectural idea from the material. In this way, the rooms and volumes I create can have a clarity, a personal voice."
