Personal best

Orsolya Bagala, Emily Gjernild, Mie Mørkeberg, Krista Rosenkilde, Birgitte Støvring, Ida Sønder Thorhauge and Maria Wæhrens are all recognized and significant artists who are making their mark on the art scene, both in Denmark and internationally. Their works reflect gender, myth, the beautiful, the disgusting, the sensual, the intuitive and the powerful in diverse ways – expressed with a vitality and sensibility that broadens the understanding of painting.

This exhibition presents a selection of contemporary Danish paintings by women who all in different ways take their starting point from personal stories and experiences and invite the viewer into unknown universes and insist that the most personal contains the common. They do this by unrestrainedly using painting as a medium with all its meanings and traditions.

As a Danish artist and curator living in Sweden, I feel that there are high walls between the Danish and Swedish art scenes and that this prevents a fruitful exchange between the Danish and Swedish art scenes.
