Music session in Östra Herrestad church

For six years now, Östra Herrestad's village team has been arranging music sessions in the church on Saturdays in July. An initiative that has its background in the fact that the church is normally closed during the year, but since it is quite unique with its medieval ceiling paintings, the village team wanted to allow the public to take part in the interesting and intimate church room. Add to that the fact that it has excellent acoustics, and a fine organ, and it was an obvious idea to arrange small musical moments in connection with the ringing of the weekend goal.

During these six years, all kinds of music have sounded in the church, from jazz, folk music and hymns to pure organ music and classical pieces. A broad repertoire thus, but now on Saturday 27 July they are presenting a cutting-edge program with music that has probably never sounded in Österlen before. Two marimba players meet and together they will present a sound and rhythm party in the church.

Bo Håkansson (currently active in the Malmö Symphony Orchestra) and Anti Ohenoja (currently active in the Kuala Lumpor Symphony Orchestra) met in Toronto when they were studying there, and have since done various projects together. The concert this Saturday is a rehearsal for a tour to the Baltics, and both musicians will board the ferry in Ystad already late on Saturday evening. It contains music by i.a. J. S. Bach and Steve Reich as the most famous names.
