Blues meets big band - Thorbjørn Risager, the Danish bluesman with a worldwide reputation, is the Monday Night Big Band's guest artist on the Solhällan summer stage.
Guitarist, singer and composer Thorbjørn Risager grew up with music and found the blues when he discovered Ray Charles and B.B. in his teens. King. At first he sang and played in music clubs in Copenhagen; after his education at Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen, he also started writing his own music in parallel with his performances in various constellations. It didn't take long until Thorbjørn Risager became famous on the international blues scene. He is considered to have one of the world's best blues voices.
The Malmö-based Monday Night Big Band was founded in 1988 as a tribute to Thad Jones by tenor saxophonist and composer Jörgen Nilsson. He was handpicked by the American trumpeter and arranger for his Eclipse Big Band in the late 1970s. Prominent jazz musicians active in the region play in MNBB. The big band has done several tours in Sweden and abroad, in Denmark, France, Norway and Germany, and appeared on the legendary music stages Village Vanguard and Carnegie Hall in New York. Svante Thuresson, Amanda Ginsburg, Sinne Eeg, Ingrid Jensen and Dena DeRose are some of the jazz profiles who collaborated with MNBB.
