Midsummer celebration at Backåkra

The traditional Midsummer celebration at Backåkra began in 1968 in connection with the inauguration of the hostel right next door. Since then, the celebration has continued in the same spirit throughout the years, with dancing, music, singing and games around the Midsummer pole, a simple, pure Midsummer celebration, completely according to the guidelines in Dag Hammarskjöld's will.
Visitors come just to sit down on the meadow to experience the special atmosphere of Midsummer at Backåkra, perhaps also combined with a visit to the coffee shop. Participating in the whirlwinds of dancing around the Midsummer pole and the children's participation in the games can be another important reason for a visit.

The event is supported by the Dag Hammarskjölds Backåkra Foundation, Ystads Kommun Kultur och Fritid, and Ystads Allehanda.
