Kajsa Mattas – Under the Surface

Opening Reception: Saturday, June 15, from 13:00 to 16:00
Artist Talk: 14:00

"When approaching a sculpture by Kajsa Mattas, one is faced with silence and proximity. Her figures are unadorned, under-detailed, sometimes raw – yet, in the stillness, these strong expressions, direct appeals, and touches resonate. Encounters!
The invisible movement, a subtle twist, a concrete chest that breathes, a bronze-heavy Maria with child conveying listening – and peace.
Painting, drawing, sculpture can show us something we do not see. As in Kajsa Mattas's visual world.”

Carl Otto Werkelid
