Invasive plants in Vik
There are many species that are classified as invasive in Sweden. They are considered to represent a large cost for society, companies and for nature itself. Is there anything that can be done about it? In Vik, a group of volunteers in Vik's road association has almost removed the park slide from four places in Vik. What have we learned? Can we help other groups deal with this plant? Why do species such as parkslide, lupine, Robinia (false acacia) and giant locust manage to become invasive while other non-native species do not? Our guide today is Anders Lönneborg, project coordinator for the park slide project. He shows us in the village how a group of volunteers can make a big difference. With us we also have Kristoffer Hewitt, who has many years of experience from England in combating floating spike leaves, parkslide, Rhododendron ponticum and mink. We finish in Vigarehuset with a discussion about invasive species plus coffee. A joint event with the Biosphere Association. Contact person: Kristoffer, 076–8503037
