Hjärtat i handen

“The Heart in the Hand” is a movement-based multidisciplinary artwork and an initiative by Riksteatern Skåne and Helsingborg Municipality, where older dancers (aged 65 to 92) have worked with choreographers to create a performance centered around the experience of aging from different senses, as well as themes of care and intimacy.
How does aging sound? Does time have a direction? What is your relationship to your skin?
Through various senses and ways of listening to the body, we play with the concept of time and experiences that emerge from the body.
Recurring themes include boundaries that dissolve—between oneself and the other, between layers of experience, between moments in time, between fiction and reality, between inner landscapes and textures that become outer surfaces. Questions of identity arise in a sensory exploration and listening to the aging body, where the inside of the body becomes the outside.
“The Heart in the Hand” at Ystad Art Museum begins with an hour-long installation and ongoing form where the audience moves through the museum’s rooms and exhibitions, through landscapes of parallel events, process, and deep dives from the performance as they encounter the museum space.
Become part of the performance’s process by participating and recording a memory, and responding to questions from the choreographers. Wander freely between different events, or let yourself be guided through the performance’s scenic space and fragments through the eyes of one of the dancers.
What would it be like to view art with a stranger? To shake hands with someone you don’t know? To follow a work from point to point through someone else’s perspective?
At each event in the art gallery, the audience has the opportunity to record and take part in the process, which will later be woven into the performance’s world at upcoming locations, where more and more stories will eventually form a jumble of tales from different parts of Skåne.
