Outgrow the System was created as part of Teater K's three-year project Scenario 2030, which was funded by the Swedish Inheritance Fund. It is produced by Teater K in collaboration with RåFILM. A smaller contribution of the funding has also been made by the Längmanska Kulturfonden Foundation. The film interviews a total of 14 researchers and other experts in the five system-critical theories and practices: degrowth, doughnut economics, economic democracy, participatory economics and the "not for profit world" model.
A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE TRANSITION TO A SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC SYSTEM
"Change the system, not the climate" is a common demand in the climate movement. But what kind of system do we really want? In the midst of humanity's worst crisis, the pioneers are ready. Meet the new economic perspectives that have the potential to fundamentally change the world.
The original meaning of the word "economy" is "housekeeping". Today’s economy, however, is not about households, but rather about depleting our finite natural resources at an alarming rate. “Outgrow the System” explores how we can return to the essence of the concept and design an economic system that truly manages our scarce resources. Beyond the narrow mainstream debate and business school teaching, many new economic ideas and methods are emerging. They challenge old assumptions and provide new perspectives on how we can reorganize our production and consumption, to ensure our survival as a species on this planet.
“Outgrow the System” aims to highlight these transformative ideas. It celebrates the abundance of creativity and ideas that exist all over the world and invites them to collide and converge. The film imagines a world where social movements around the world can unite behind positive visions instead of just opposing dystopias. With this film, we want to democratize the conversation around economics, ecology, and democracy. Economics should be a subject that is accessible to everyone, not limited to experts. We want to empower viewers to engage in discussions about economic models and create hope that change is not only possible, but already underway. Let's join the movement for change!
