Author´s Talk: Lisa Pelling

Lisa Pelling lectures on her approximately 200 conversations with people from small towns and rural areas—places often debated but rarely heard. The book is based on over two hundred conversations with people across Sweden, in small communities and the Swedish countryside. These are individuals frequently used as arguments in public debate but seldom given a voice themselves. They live in areas with scarce economic resources yet rich in natural assets and lived experiences. Experiences of profound change—transitioning from industrial towns to small businesses, from garrison towns to tourist destinations, from the rapid growth of the golden years to today’s slow depopulation.

Now, these communities face a new transition. How can people’s experiences be valued? What is needed for the climate transition to be perceived as fair and desirable?

Life Happening Here – Conversations on Climate and Transition is written by Lisa Pelling & Marika Palmér Rivera.
