Lecture: Susanne Åkesson
Susanne Åkesson, professor of zooecology at Lund University, buys a house in Skåne as an adult. The garden is partly bare but has potential. Susanne begins the work of transforming the garden into a place for both people and birds. The ambition is to create a place for birds, with safe habitats, food, shelter and water, as well as to place nest boxes, water baths and plants to contribute to a richer local environment. Twenty years later, twenty bird species live in the garden, along with hedgehogs, bats, frogs and multitudes of pollinating insects. Starting to enrich your garden with possible habitats is a good start to having a garden that benefits animal life and that provides a richer harvest, helps against pests and contributes to diversity.
