Lecture: Twilight of the Gods
During the end of the Viking Age, that is, between 900 and 1100, a religious shift took place in the Nordic countries, where the pre-Christian religion was replaced by Christianity. Kings and nobles made this more or less an official decision at court, through various decrees and later with the support of laws. In fact, this shift involved a long and complicated process, which included many adaptations, adjustments and changes. The dissolution of the old religion took place at different times in different places.
Olof Sundqvist is a professor of religious history at Stockholm University. He is a specialist in Old Norse religion, but has also been interested in the meeting between Roman and Germanic religion.
In collaboration with the Association for the Preservation of Ancient Monuments and Local Heritage in Southeastern Skåne. Coffee and cake will be served after the lecture. Price: 150 SEK, members 100 SEK. Ticket purchase via the museum's website.
