Cumbiasound

Cumbiasound is not just a Cumbia band—it’s a living, evolving sound experiment born in 2010 on a sun-soaked sidewalk in La Dorada, Colombia. Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Fridell and his Colombian wife were sharing an ice cream when the supermarket speakers burst into funky Colombian rhythms.

That moment sparked the vision for Cumbiasound: a project weaving together Colombian cumbia with jazz, reggae, funk, Afrobeat, space sounds - connecting Africa and South America through music and love.

​The first tracks quickly gained attention in Mexico’s digital underground, leading to the debut release Calzones Largos (2011) with Chilean rapper Boogie Castillo (Daniel’s longtime collaborator from their 90’s hip hop adventures). Together, they fused raw rap with psychedelic cumbia grooves, carving out a fresh and distinctive sound.
