Bo Beskow – from Österlen to New York
Welcome to this year's special exhibition at Backåkra with works by artist Bo Beskow from his time in Österlen and in New York. Beskow (1906–1989) was a Swedish artist and writer, who became known as a skilled portrait painter, but also for his mural paintings and glass designs.
His works can be seen at the School of Social Studies in Stockholm, in Skara Cathedral and in the UN House in New York. His friendship with Dag Hammarskjöld led to Beskow being active in Österlen and New York for several years.
He was the son of Natanael and Elsa Beskow, a good friend of John Steinbeck, and associated with Ernest Hemingway and Robert Oppenheimer.
