Anita & Gunnar's Christmas

After standing ovations for the musical theater performance Anita & Gunnar about the schlager icons Anita Lindblom and Gunnar Wiklund, we now present Anita & Gunnars Jul!

Just like in the original Anita & Gunnar, the two friends meet in the "afterlife" once again, this time to celebrate Christmas together. Some complications arise, but the main theme is a warm and nostalgic Christmas. The music primarily features melodies from Lindblom's and Wiklund's Christmas albums from the 1960s and 70s.

Gunnar Wiklund and Anita Lindblom were two of Sweden's biggest artists and were even engaged, living together for six months in Sköndal in 1960. He was associated with misfortune, while she was known for getting herself into trouble. Both had their struggles with the press and the tax authorities. Despite immense success and the potential for happy lives, neither achieved what they had hoped.

Gunnar, considered by many as the greatest singer of the 60s, had 37 hits on Svensktoppen and his biggest hit – Nu tändas åter ljusen i min lilla stad – sold over 200,000 copies. However, after a series of setbacks in the 70s and 80s, he described himself as bitter and forgotten. After being diagnosed with cancer, he died impoverished in 1989.

Anita rose to fame in 1957 with När svenska flickan kysser, kysser hon med öppen mun, and was immediately surrounded by scandal. Scandals continued to mark her life and career, alongside significant success as a singer and actress. Her biggest hit, Sånt är livet, remains familiar even today. Anita withdrew from the spotlight in the 80s, feeling persecuted and unfairly treated.
