Eel huts and fishing spots along the coast

Cultural historian Lena Alebo talks about some of the eel huts and fishing spots along the east coast of Skåne and the stories connected to the fishing here. The huts where the fishermen stayed during the season had names that we may have difficulty interpreting today, such as Krivareboden, Kråseboda, Stenöraboden and Rompeboden. The oral tradition connected to fishing is rich and tells of storms, sea robberies, drowned fishermen who walked away again and the giant Sten. “What is it now,” wondered Frans Löfström, as he sat in the eel hut at Baskemölla one dark night, “do eels eat corpses?” And he got the answer there and then.
