VERNISSAGE

Opening on Saturday, March 9 at 13.00 by the museum's new director Anna Gullmark.

The exhibition contains photographs from Ystad's museums. The oldest pictures are from the 1860s. Thanks to the photographs, you can get a picture of how the city has changed over time. It can also be seen that the oldest personal photographs were taken in a photo studio and that newer technology made it easier to take portraits outdoors.
For just over 80 years, it was mainly two photographers who documented the Ystad of their time. Their names were Samuel Moses Marcus, active 1865–1917, and Axel Carlborn, active 1905–1946. Most of the photographs in the exhibition were taken by one of them.
The exhibition shows different parts of Ystad and some of its inhabitants, companies and exhibitions. The photographs are taken over an almost 100-year period, the oldest being from the 1860s, the newest from the 1950s. Some places are recognisable, others are completely changed; from a bygone era.
