Theme days: The medieval kitchen

What did the people of the late Middle Ages eat and drink at Glimmingehus - and how did they cook it? In our atmospheric roastery - where food has been prepared for centuries - these aromatic experiences await you.

Both days there will be a talk - Food and flavors in medieval Scandinavia - with Daniel Serra, culinary archaeologist at 2-3pm. What did people actually eat in Scandinavia from the 13th-16th centuries? Can we see any traces of today's food culture in medieval food? Daniel guides you through the tastes, dishes and finds of the Middle Ages in the search for a food culture of the time.

Daniel has studied recipes, texts, as well as archaeological finds in his attempts to recreate medieval culinary experiences and thoughts from everyday life to celebration. Come listen and learn more about what people might have eaten here 500 years ago!

Daniel also has ongoing workshops both days - Medieval spice mixes, flavors and accessories - approx. 12-2pm and 3-4pm. With his help, you can mix spice mixes, mustard and other things that heightened dining experiences during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Everything is based on what we know from medieval sources and recipes. Among other things, a mustard that comes from a Danish recipe from the 13th century is mixed.
