Richard Johansson "The Road"

Richard Johansson is a fearless and curious artist who is interested in cultures and expressions that are not often depicted within the spaces and frames of the art world. Inspired by American and Swedish rural culture and folk art, he views and portrays, with an honest and sincere look, a reality shaped by memories and longing. Richard Johansson's artistry is characterized by empathy and humor, but there is always a seriousness and commitment in the stories surrounding his work. The exhibition The Road at Ystad's art museum will be a colorful manifestation of an artist with a great personality, an odd bird outside the usual ranks.

Richard Johansson was born in 1966 in Vrigstad, Småland, but today lives in Kivik. He is educated at Malmö Konstskola Forum (later Malmö Konsthögskola). Johansson is represented by Galleri Magnus Karlsson in Stockholm and has previously been shown at, among others, Vandalorum, Västerås Art Museum, Växjö Art Hall and Wanås Art. He has also, together with Mette Björnberg, made a series of public performances in, among others, Stockholm, Malmö and Kristianstad.
