Concert with Ensemble Gemma at Glimmingehus
The Virgin Mary is the most sung and written about woman of the Middle Ages and was often referred to as Our Lady. This program features songs by the French 13th-century monk Gautier de Coincy (1177-1236) from his collection Miracles de Nostre Dame: The Miracles of Our Lady.
The songs are interspersed with stories of Marian miracles from Swedish medieval times, such as the miracle of Our Lady’s robe and the miracle of the knight and the tournament. These miracles are drawn from the so-called Fornsvenska legendariet—one of medieval Sweden’s bestsellers, containing popular saint legends of the time.
The program will be performed in a lightly staged format with vocals, recorders, lute, percussion, harp, and fiddle. Performers include Karin Lagergren, Emelie Roos, and Dohyo Sol.
Karin Lagergren is a singer, educator, and musicologist, particularly known for her work with Gregorian chant. She is one of Sweden's leading experts in this field, both as a performer and researcher.
Karin performs as a soloist, with other musicians, and especially with her own ensemble Gemma, founded in 2006. She combines her freelance work with her role as a docent in musicology at Linnaeus University.
The performance will take place in the castle's great hall. Tickets are available for purchase online.
