Grégory Private "Yonn"
The first day of the festival is rounded off in the beautiful interior of the monastery church in the company of the prominent French pianist Grégory Privat in an atmospheric solo concert.
Grégory Privat was born and raised in the French department of Martinique in the West Indies. The early musical influences have always been strong and present: "All the elements of Caribbean music are present in me and find their way into my music intuitively and naturally. But I always try to go somewhere else, every day discover new styles.”
After ten years of training as a classical pianist, Grégory Privat also sought other musical paths and gradually came closer to improvisation and jazz. In the early 2000s, when he had moved to France, he took the plunge and started playing in jazz clubs in Paris.
One of many musical collaboration partners is Lars Danielsson. In 2015, Grégory Privat played at the jazz festival in Ystad in the Lars Danielsson Group, which with trumpeter Mathias Eick performed "Liberetto II" in Lars Danielsson's project Liberetto. Grégory Privat also appears on Lars Danielsson's albums "Liberetto III" (2017) and "Cloudland" (2021).
Grégory Privat has released six albums under his own name, the first "Ki Koté" came in 2011. His latest album is entitled "Yonn" (2022), which means "one" in Creole, and contains original compositions with elements of vocal accompaniment and harmonies . The music is meditative and captivating; here Caribbean influences, classical music and jazz come together. In the monastery church, we hear Grégory Privat perform music from "Yonn".
